Chris Jones’s return from a holdout has been vital to the Chiefs’ defense.

FLORIDA — JACKSONVILLE After Chris Jones ended his holdout last week and returned to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid had high hopes for his performance.

In Sunday’s 17-9 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jones played above his pay grade for the Chiefs.

I was certain that he could do his thing there, but maybe not at that level, Reid said. “He had a significant impact on the game in our favor.”
Jones, in his first game of the season, played sparingly but still managed five pressures, 1.5 sacks, and a pass knockdown under the humid conditions of a Florida afternoon. He was a problem for the Jaguars all over the defensive line, as he lined up there in many different formations.

His fourth-down sack gave the Chiefs excellent field position for their lone touchdown drive of the half, which occurred late in the second quarter.

In the fourth quarter, on third down inside the Chiefs’ 20, Jones recorded a split sack. On fourth down, the Chiefs defense stifled the Jaguars’ passing game, resulting in an incomplete throw and a loss of possession.

This is why I’m here, Jones stated, referring to plays such as this one. “I see it as nothing more than a game. In other words, no stress. Having a good time and making sure we win the game in whichever way possible are priorities for me right now.

Jones played in 31 of Jacksonville’s 64 offensive plays, the fourth-highest total for any defensive lineman on the Chiefs’ roster.

The Chiefs’ pass rush was more effective than in Week 1 with four sacks and 1.5 for George Karlaftis.

When asked about Jones, Travis Kelce commented, “He looked like the old 9-5 to me.” Jones’s jersey number is 9-5.

After missing last week’s game with a hyperextended knee, Kelce finally got in on the action this season. Even while Kelce didn’t have as much of an effect on the game as Jones did, Patrick Mahomes still found him four times for 26 yards and a score.

“There was absolutely no question in my mind,” Kelce remarked. I was in the air and all over the place. I would have liked to have contributed more to the success of my team. I gave it my all out there, and I hope we can improve upon what you witnessed next week.

The Patriots are 0-2, their worst start since 2001.

It’s FOXBOROUGH, Mass. After Sunday night’s 24-17 home loss to the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots are 0-2 for the first time since the 2001 season. This ends the NFL’s longest streak and has sparked emotions among players.

Linebacker Matthew Judon remarked, “I know it looks bad when you start [0-2], but this is not a bad team, so don’t get to asking those types of questions.” As one player put it, “I don’t think we’re about to hang our heads in that locker room.”

The Green Bay Packers (2006) have the NFL’s current record for longest active run against opening with a 0-2 record.

Despite the fact that the Cincinnati Bengals bounced back from a 0-2 start last season to advance to the AFC Championship Game, only 31 of 270 teams that started a season 0-2 qualified for the postseason since 1990, according to research from ESPN Stats & Information. However, the implementation of the 17-game regular season in 2021 has created more margin for error.
The Patriots’ poor starts and three turnovers in the first quarter contributed to their season-opening losses to the Eagles and Dolphins, respectively, before they stormed back and nearly won in the end.

It’s the first time in Bill Belichick’s tenure as head coach that the Patriots have been down by 10 points or more in each of the season’s opening two games.

In his 24th year leading the Patriots, Bill Belichick has a simple explanation for his team’s poor starts: “Can’t turn the ball over.”

At the same time, Judon, a seasoned leader on the squad, addressed the media on Sunday night.

When we return [this week], nobody will be asking, ‘How are you all going to put it together?’ It’s not a mystery to us. He emphasized the importance of starting the game with a similar style of play to the second half.

When we take the field, we need juice, or some sort of energy. We can’t afford to wait till we’re down 17, or even 13. This league is very competitive. Too many smart people, too many clever plans.

End zone tight end Hunter One of six captains, Henry, deemed the team’s 0-2 start “very frustrating.”

I quote: “We need to be a lot more disciplined,” Two weeks in a row, we’ve lost nail-biters despite coming close. But we’re giving up possession of the ball too early in games. Offensively, we need to step up our game.
